Modern, Japandi or Minimalist? Finding a Style That Feels Like You
Three styles that get confused constantly, and how to tell which one you actually want.
These three labels get used interchangeably in Singapore listings, which helps nobody. The differences are real, and they change what your home costs to build and to live in.
Modern
Clean lines, an honest structure, a restrained palette that still allows a strong accent. Modern tolerates colour and pattern in a way the other two do not.
Japandi
Japanese restraint meeting Scandinavian warmth. Low profiles, matte finishes, natural fibre, and a deliberate emptiness that requires genuine discipline to maintain.
Minimalist
The most demanding of the three, and the most expensive to build well. Every surface has to be perfect because there is nothing to distract from it.
